The Commune-ity Zine Scholarship Terms and Conditions
Eligibility Requirements:
Applicants must be enrolled in a college or university by December 1st, 2024.
Applicants must be pursuing a degree in any form of Art or Communication.
Applicants must submit a completed application form and an essay as part of the application process by September 2nd, 2024.
Application Process:
Applicants must fill out the scholarship application form available here.
An essay of 500-1000 words must be submitted with the application, addressing the topic: "How has your relationship to community inspired you to pursue studying Art or Communication "
All application materials must be submitted by September 2nd, 2024.
Selection Criteria:
Applications will be evaluated based on the quality and originality of the essay, academic performance, and demonstrated commitment to community service.
Please refrain from using ai iN ANY WAY to write your essay or any part of your application. We are looking to read YOUR words from your heart, not a robots.
A selection committee appointed by The Commune-ity Zine will review all applications and make the final decision.
Scholarship Award:
The scholarship amount will be determined by the total funds raised from donations, a silent auction, and a raffle held during The Commune-ity Zine launch party.
The scholarship will be paid directly to the recipient’s educational institution to cover tuition and related expenses.
Recipients will be notified by October 1st, and funds will be disbursed to the institution as soon as possible (by December 1st at the latest).
Conditions of Award:
Recipients must provide proof of enrollment in an accredited college or university program in art or communication by December 1st, 2024.
Funds must be used for tuition, fees, books, and other related educational expenses.
General Terms:
The scholarship is non-transferable and cannot be deferred to a later academic year.
If the recipient fails to enroll or drops out of the program, any unused funds must be returned to The Commune-ity Zine Scholarship Fund.
Recipients may be asked to participate in promotional activities related to The Commune-ity Zine and the scholarship program.
Recipients will be asked to agree to a photo release so that they can be featured in the following issue of The Commune-ity Zine.

It depends on how much we raise. Generous donations from our community fund The Commue-ity Scholarship. We have a donate button on the website and we host a silent auction and gift basket raffle with each magazine launch. The proceeds from these places make up the fund for The Commune-ity Scholarship. Encourage folks you know to donate to the fund, if they can, here.

Yes! The scholarship can be awarded to an out of state school or any school in the United States. We pay the money directly to the institution so the student is not responsible for taxes on the award.

Not necessarily. We are looking to support someone in our own community, however, candidates can live up to 50 miles outside of Pensacola and still receive an award from The Commune-ity Scholarship.

We pay out the award to the institution the student is enrolled in as soon as possible after the recipient has been notified. We must pay out the money by the end of the calendar year for tax purposes. (i.e. Autumn & Winter scholarships must be paid out no later than December)
